Couple things I should have added. My wife and I had both been to Rome before, which is why we didn't include more days in Rome. Also, I returned the car in Romo at Termini station. This was a stressful experience for a few reasons and I would suggest either returning at the airport or in a town north of Rome and taking the train in.

Jim, I like to stay in a village with kids--so they can wander on thier own.
From my list above, I will suggest Palazzo Capitano because I love that village--very authentic. The better value is Palazzina Cesari in Montalcino--you would need 2 rooms at either place. If you are spending a week, then I know a lovely house with 2 bedooms in San Quirico. And, there are some great apts. named " Politian" in Montepulciano that would be good for you. Hope this helps.
Regardless, the CT is too far for a day trip. Spend 2 nites there.

Hi -- We also returned from Italy on Sunday and we had a great experience at a working winery called Fattoria Viticcio in Greve-in-Chianti. It's a short walk to the village of Greve which has loads of exceptional restaurants. The rooms were immaculate, and very well priced at 80Euros per night. The agriturismo has two pools and it situated upon on a hill overlooking the village. It's central to Siena, San Gimignano, Florence, etc... The kids loved staying there too and when we went into town, they were free and felt safe to wander around with some Euros in their pockets. Hope this helps...www.fattoriaviticcio.com

Hi Bob - I'm resurrecting an old thread! You seem like an expert of Tuscany. Could you please tell me the name of this house in San Quirico?

How does the countryside of Greve-in-Chianti compare to the area south of Siena? I feel like I'm leaning toward the southern area - we want 'typical' Tuscany: hills, curvy roads, the scenes with a villa on top of a hill surrounded by the tall skinny trees, but maybe Greve would also fit the bill? I've been getting books, but they don't seem to differentiate between areas of Tuscany, but I do have the impression that each is a bit different. Thanks!

I thought I should mention that we'll have 2 kids with us so we would want to consider that if you think one area would be better than another. We all love great views. Once we decide on an area, we'll look for an agriturismo with a pool (hopefully under 1000E per week)

I missed you reply until now Bob! It got by me. In the meantime I actually came across this place and we were thinking it would make sense to stay here 3 nights so we could just wander around Montepulciano for a day without worrying about parking and also to be close to the other towns in the area. It makes me feel better to hear you'll be staying there too.
