Honeymoon Itinerary? Venice-Tuscany-CT

I would appreciate your help with our honeymoon itinerary! We plan on flying into Venice for 4 nights and staying at Locanda Orseolo. Then renting a car and driving to our accomodation in Tuscany for 5 nights. Followed by 4 nights at La Mala in CT and departing from either the airport in Pisa or Genoa. Our quandary lies on where to stay in Tuscany. I was very excited about Sant'Antonio near Montepulciano, however the stay requires 7 nights. Sadly, that may be too long for our available vacation days from work (boo!). Would you have a suggestion of a place to stay in the same general area? All in all, does this sound like a reasonable itinerary? Grazie!!

The area you plan to stay in Tuscany, called Val d'Orcia, is my absolute favorite in the world. It is SO gorgeous, you will love it. What time of year are you planning to be there?

As for where to stay, there are so many options. Do you prefer a small hotel or B&B within the city? Or an agriturismo outside the city where you would need a car, for instance, to find some dinner, etc.? What kind of budget do you have? Etc.?

Nice trip--you have done your homework. This may help:

BOB’S FAVORITE DIGS IN TUSCANY

Siena province is easily my favorite part of Tuscany. Here is a list of accommodations that I suggest. All prices assume a typical double room.

A. RURAL LOCATIONS: All have parking and good food options nearby

1. Relais La Saracina www.lasaracina.it 230 to 300E
Fabulous country home near Montepulciano—helpful owners

2. Le Traverse www.letraverse.it 155E
Small B&B just south of Pienza—hard to beat at the price—has pool

3. Lucignanello Bandini www.piccolomini.it 150[2] to 244E[4]
These are apartments in a lovely but remote rural setting.

4. Hotel Pescille www.pescille.it Good value at a rustic hotel only 3 km from famed San Gimignano with great views---100 to 130E

5. Fattoria Tregole www.fattoria-tregole.com 110E to 180E
Has both B&B and apartment accommodations. Near Castellina in Chianti

B. IN-TOWN LOCATIONS: For walking convenience to shops etc.

1. Palazzo del Capitano www.palazzodelcapitano.com 130 to 180E
Very nice small hotel in center of San Quirico—perfect location to explore.

2. Vecchia Oliviera www.tuscany.net/oliviera/ 130 to 180E
Nice 4 star hotel at the gate into lovely Montalcino---has pool.

3. Palazzina Cesari www.montalcinoitaly.com 80 to 110E
Lovely small B&B in heart of Montalcino—great value—2 nite stay minimum.

4. Locanda di San Francesco www.locandasanfrancesco.it 180 to 200E
New boutique B&B in a lovely location in Montepulciano—great reviews !

5. Palazzo Ravizza www.palazzoravizza.it 130 to 180E
Very nice & popular hotel in Siena with parking.

I join in the La Saracina suggestion. It is a magical place indeed!

Another one which you may want to consider is Villa Poggiano, just google the name. Maybe half a mile from La Saracina toward Montepulciano and very-very impressive.

Should you decide on Poggiano, consider staying in the less expensive (No.8?) room, since it has its own private lawn with chairs and a drop-dead view of the valley.
