we're going to Amalfi region on honeymoon in October, the hotel Certosa sounds great, love to hear how Maria's trip went. We would like to be near the beach and a town also, the more authentic the better, so any other romantic hotel suggestions?? We won't have a car either, so would need to reply on public transport, how difficult would it be to get from Sorrento to ML or Nerano? We've been on the circumvesuvium before as far as Pompeii and it was fine, just like any local train service anywhere in Europe, (very similar to the DART service we have here in Dublin) I presume there are taxi's etc at Sorrento station?

Gabi,
we're coming back from our honeymoon ( second for both) and we stayed in our paradise at ML.
Place is Marina della Lobra, near the beach and in the town.
Public bus for Sorrento, not for Nerano.
Sorrento station you have taxis, surely.
It was not a hotel, it is a family house.
I suggest you.
By the way, we saw la Certosa, it sounds nice and clean.
Gabi:

I will look for this thread and post when we return. I will be in Nerano on Sunday. There is bus service from Sorrento to the Marina Del Cantona where Hotel Certosa is. Unfortunately the last bus arrives around 8:30 pm and it is a 55 minute ride. If we want to return later, we will take a bus to one of the nearby towns and then taxi from there. And the owner said he would pick us up if we need it. We decided to stay for half board so that dinner would be included. We are paying about $100 a night including breakfast and dinner for two!

The town of Massa Lubrense is more convienant to Sorrento (3 km. I think, vs. 18 km.) but we like the idea of getting away from the more touristy area and staying in a fishing village. There is boat transportation out of the Marina as well. Bus schedules are shown on the Massa Lubrense website.

I don't really consider Hotel Certosa to be a honeymoon type place. We chose it because of the excellent reviews we have seen and for price, friendly english speaking owners, and clean, quiet, safe sleeping. I don't expect luxury or pampering there. Some other higher class hotels have been mentioned in the same area. Of course, we rented a cabin in the Colorado Rockies for our honeymoon, so pampering isn't what I look for ,lol!

Thanks Maria and others for the replies, the Amalfi region is only one part of our honeymoon, so by the time we get there we'll just want to relax somewhere scenic with lots of good italian food, (I'm still dreaming of the Roman dinners we had last summer)I'd love to hear how your stay in the Certosa went, we aren't looking for a pampering honeymoon, and we too like to get away from realy touristy areas. The price/reviews and location on teh beach are what made the certosa sound so good. Have a great trip!

Gabi,
welcome to Massa Lubrense.
I don't live there, I live in Piano di Sorrento; however, I say that Massa Lubrense is the best, better than Sorrento.
As regards good Italian food, in Massa Lubrense, there are five of the best restaurant of Penisola Sorrentina: Don Alfonso, Quattro Passi, Antico Ristorante Francischiello, Lo Stuzzichino, Ciardiello.
Your happy problem is to choose among them.
Have a nice trip, ciao.
