Maryann,
You usually won't find it on your map because it is too far east, but if you look at a metro map you will see the Pere Lachaise metro stop which will give you a better idea of where it is located.

Is that where Jim Morrison is buried? If not does anyone know where his gravesite is?

Yes, I've been to Jim's gravesite. It's VERY hard to find too. Best bet is to buy the $2 map at the entrance and ask the map-seller to point out Jim's gravesite. We didn't buy the map and had to ask people with the map. It is amongst many other grave headstones, tombs. Quite frightning experience almost.

Just returned from our trip - went to Pere Lachaise again, to find some different 'celebrity' spots, but did find Jim's as well. Currently has 1-2 security guards posted to prevent souvenir-taking (sad, huh?) and usually there are several others looking for the place or at the place already. The headstone is nothing that would significantly help you locate it.

Pere Lachaise is one of my favorite walks in Paris. Here are some notes and if you scroll down to the bottom of the item and click on the pic, it will enlarge on your screen:

http://www.igougo.com/planning/journalEntryActivity.asp?JournalID=3126&EntryI D=5054

Long entry, I know, but if you just copy and paste into your browser window, it should take you there.

Happy Contrails!

This thread makes me think of another cemetary I've always wanted to visit but never have. Has anyone been to the cemetary island in Venice? What did you think of it?

You'll also find some famous names buried in the Cimetiere de Montparnasse and the Cimetiere de Monmartre. If you happen to be in either of those areas, its worth taking a look.

Pere Lachese is tops for bizarre tombs and broad daylight eeriness.

Check out the guy laid out on top of his tomb metal scultpure... supposedly he tried to poison Napoleon. Not far from the crematory. You'll find it just keep walkin.
