What is the "best" hotel closest to Nice Airport?
We have an early morning flight out of Nice. We will be staying at La Reserve de Beaulieu for two nights, but then want to move to a hotel closer to the airport the last night to catch the 7:00 a.m. flight. What is the "nicest" hotel close to the airport...preferably a 4 star hotel.
Thanks

Most of the 4-star hotels in Nice are at the opposite end of the Promenade des Anglais from the airport. But a taxi ride doesn't take long; so you could easily stay at the Negresco. If, however, you want to stay really close (and for a 7 a.m. flight I'd want to), I think you'd find the 3* Novotel Arénas quite adequate. It's directly across from the airport and has a shuttle.

glsebs: We stayed at the Hotel Campanile last May. It, also, is very conveniently located right across from the airport and also has a shuttle. We were very pleased with our room and the price...76euros for a double. We took the bus into Nice for dinner but missed the last bus back so had to cab it. Their fax# number is: 33 4 93 83 83 96 and their tel is: 33 4 93 21 20 20...Good luck! Mary

Hi glsebs:
I had to go to Nice a lot on business and our company always puts our executives close to the airport at the The Holiday Inn Resort NICE-PORT ST. LAURENT.
It is either a 3 star or 4 star, but the main thing is that it is a great location because it is right on this little bay with a boardwalk with great little restaurant where lots of the locals from the "burbs" of Nice come to eat. It also has a complimentary shuttle to the airport and is much nicer in terms of hanging out. I know, I spent many a night there alone There are some great little places especially for fish and seafood. There are nice photos on the website below.

I stayed at the Novhotel Arenas last October because of an early morning flight. It was most certainly acceptable. Had internet service in the lobby, a dining room etc. Nothing in the area to walk to, but the location to the airport, with shuttle service was what I was looking for..it sounds like that is what you are looking for, too!!

i don't know where La Reserve de Beaulieu is located but if it is at the opposite end of the Promenade des Anglais as Underhill correctly indicates is the location of most better hotels, then I would not bother to move hotels. Nice airport is very convenient to the city and the location of all the "good" hotels is probably only about 10-15 min away without traffic (you'll be travelling 5:30 am or so).
why bother staying at a place on the shuttle when you can just get a taxi from your preferred hotel? Or if you must a taxi from a closer hotel, you are not that much better off, in my opinion. between the time, cost and inconvenience of having to move hotels and the inconvenience of being away from the city on your last night in Nice, I don't think it's worth it to move.

I really wouldn't bother changing hotels. If you have a 7 am flight, there won't be any traffic on the Promenade des Anglais. Getting from Beaulieu to the airport will probably take only 20 minutes or so at that time of the day.

Beaulieu is east of Nice, along the coast; I think estimating a 20-minute taxi ride would be cutting things pretty close. Sometimes it's taken us 20 minutes just from Vieux Nice to the airport.
Remember that you'll need to check in well before your flight time; so staying closer to the airport (at least in Nice itself) will save you precious minutes in the morning.

How about the Radisson SAS on Promenade des Anglais? It's only about a 10 minute ride from the airport, and was just recently renovated from top to bottom. There is a beautiful rooftop pool with incredible views of Nice. It's a 3-4 star property.

Underhill; at 5.30 in the morning it won't take very long. There won't be much traffic on the Promenade des Anglais.
Cobbie; half an hour sounds about right at that time of day from Cannes to Nice airport.

Weadles,
Thanks for the SAS Radisson recommendation. On their website, they claim the airport is a 5 minute drive. This looks like it will be perfect for us for our early morning flight. I appreciate all the help and suggestions.

I'm sure there won't be much traffic on the Promenade des Anglais, but you also have to factor in the driving time from Beaulieu to Nice--and getting around the port is always dicey, no matter the time of day (or night).
