What is the best 5 * hotel in the amalfi coast area in terms of the view?
My wife and I would like to go to the amalfi region for a few days before we go to ROme, Florence and Venice. SHall i stay in NAples and drive down or shall I stay in one of the towns there? My #1 priority is having a nice view in a 5* hotel. We will not swim but we just wanna relax and enjoy the view from our room.

We just returned from honeymoon in amalfi coast last week. I think there is an easy answer to your query: Palazzo Sasso in Ravello. It has the most incredible view of any hotel I have ever stayed in--get a sea view room, we paid 465 euros, and it was definitely worth it. Also, Palazzo Sasso has superb service and the best restaurant that we tried on our trip.

We did not stay at Santa Caterina, so I can't really dispute Debbie's opinion. You should note, however, that Santa Caterina is right on the sea, whereas Palazzo Sasso is some 1400 ft. above sea level, so it will command a much better view down the coast and the Gulf of Salerno. It is as if you are looking out the window of an airplane that is flying over water.

I know I'm repeating myself, but...

For views, relaxing and eating, it's no contest: Ravello, above Amalfi, is THE place. The Sasso and Rufino are beautiful and highly regarded, with evening concerts at the Rufino every couple of nights.

We stayed at the Parsifal. Though some of the rooms are not quite five star, the views, food (included with the room) and management easily are.

You might also consider staying at the Cimbriano, where the public gardens are. They kick everyone out at six and you get these fabulous, historic gardens to yourself.

Don't drive there. Take the SITA bus up from Salerno.
