While there seem to be many different styles and prices, can someone give me an idea of the average age for an average price (not budget or luxury) 7 day gulet cruise in Turkey?

It all depens on the period you wish to cruise and the ports. Private gulets depending on the period may vary from 900 Usd to 2500 daily for 3 or 4 cabins. Also if air conditioning is a must calculate somewhere in between.

Cabin charters are different, much cheeper but you have no choice to choose your company to travel with!!!!

The travel companies organizing and filling gulets appear to group passengers with common language preferences. A gulet with English speakers will have an age range from 18 to 70, but most passengers will be in the 20-30 age group. The ages really have no bearing on the experience. It is far more important to hire a decent agency and pick a route with interesting sights.

Just like cruise lines in all regions - the average age is 73. If you are a retired gentleman who knows how to dance you can get an interesting job as a professioal gulet host. Don't forget to pack your tuxedo!

Lee (or others who might have answers), if you could point me in the direction of the gulet travel agents that you have found to be reputable, I'd appreciate the assist. We are looking for a cabin charter, not the entire gulet.

Glad you responded to Mr. Ludlow's sarcastic post. Who needs this kind of "help" on Fodor's--waste of time and space.
I would like to give you a no-fail name; however, the agent (V-Go) that did our back-to-back cruises from Marmaris to Fethiye and Fethiye to Olympos was lacking. They farmed out the first leg to Ocean Tours who changed the itinerary and schedule to suit a large group of young people. We had to scramble to get back on schedule for the second cruise, which was on V-Go's own boat. This one followed the schedule and made all the stops on an interesting leg of coastline. This boat was in better shape but overcrowded, with one fellow having no cabin. All were English speakers, and I am sure anyone and everyone who showed up at their doorstep was squeezed onboard. The Australian that works at V-Go in Fethiye hinted that cabins were often shared by strangers.
I would expect that any agency, if given the opportunity, would fill and overfill their boats, no matter what assurances were given beforehand. I think one would just have to take a chance and hope for the best. At least the Fethiye to Olympos route is very interesting--just don't stay in Olympos or go there hoping to get a cheap ride out.

Upon reflection I realize that any gulet staffed with professional gulet hosts would have to qualify as a luxury gulet. Apologies for the confusion.

So, back to acctg's ridiculous question. Most gulets can only handle 8-12 guests. One rental might have a family with lots of young kids on it. Another might be loaded up with teenagers. A third might have a group of middle-aged couples. What possible use would acctg get out of knowing the "average age" of an "average price" boat? It tells you nothing. Either travel with a large enough group to charter your own boat or wait until the last minute and ask the boat company what they know about the other passengers.

Bob, you are certainly a surly fellow. One wonders why you waste your time responding to people who ask such "ridculous questions." Certainly, such a fine, intelligent, well-traveled person as you should be busy writing guide books and appearing on the Today show, giving sage advice to idiot travelers like me.

That being said, in retrospect I should have clearly stated that we were only able to do a cabin charter - not an entire gulet. Bob, if one researches on the internet a bit or reads a few books, they quickly come to realize that many gulets are geared towards the backpacker style of travel. My husband and I, ages 50 and 64, are not into backpacking, do not want to spend a week with a boat load of 25 years olds, and do not want to party 'till the wee hours. Bluntly put, we do not want luxury, but require a comfortable bed rather than a sleeping bag on the deck.

I would say my question is simply good planning so that we have an enjoyable trip. I also think it's a matter of courtesy to our fellow travellers so that they are not 'stuck with grandma and grandpa' on their vacation. Courtesy is evidently a word that you do not recognize. May I respectvully suggest that you refer to your dictionary and consider this before you type another sarcastic, unhelpful post.

Your first post asks the silly question and your final post answers it. If only you hadn't waited so long between the two - you could have given yourself the answer. And thanked yourself for it. In fact, you could have posted an entire conversation with yourself for the edification of us all.

Just one question: if you "require a comfortable bed rather than a sleeping bag on the deck" then (once again) who the heck cares what the average age is of the average customer on an average-priced gulet in an average Turkey? Averagely, that is?

I have had friends do a cabin rental with this company. They are not cheap but they had a wonderful experience with them, went to great historic places, hiked and just lounged around, hope this helps.
