Weekends in Italy

Hi, I am spending 3 weeks in Italy on a business trip. Would anyone out there be able to suggest weekend getaways from Rome. I am very eager to see Florence and Naples. So any tips on how to commute (train?) and hotels to stay would be appreciated. Thanks

Definately go by train. Very economic way to travel. Not all the trains are tidy though...

If you go Naples you would probably consider Capri as well. Don't. Go Ischia instead. Trains are booked on the trenitalia.it website. website for ischia here http://www.ischia.it/portaleischia_u.../html/home.php.

From Rome, you can reach both Florence and Naples by train. Both cities are less than two hours away by the fastest train.

What time of year will you be there?

There are lots of travel agencies online that offer excursions. Of course they are more expensive than if you do them on your own but they give you a good idea of what's possible in a day. Viator.com is a good place to look.

Hi IHo - Do you have 2 weekends or 3?

You could really spend 2 weekends just in the Naples area, there's so much to see:

Naples itself, Pompeii, Capri, the Amalfi Coast, Ercolano, Vesuvius, Paestum, Ischia ...

Florence and Naples are easy destinations by train from Rome. Look at www.tripadvisor.com and www.venere.com for hotel recommendations.
