Wedding advice much needed

Has anyone from the US (or anywhere I guess) been married in Ireland? After spending the last 5 months planning the heartwrenching traditional wedding, we decided to throw that to the dogs and 'elope' to Ireland. We will have 12 people (our blended families) and that's all. Anyone know of a place that can do a small, SIMPLE wedding that we can plan from the states?

Thank-you!!

Don't know any details but I would contact the nearest consulate immediately to find out what the legalities are.

Do they have some sort of advance residence requirement?

Do they have civil marriage or church marriage or both?

What sort of documentatin will you have to have with you - birth certificates? anything else?

If you search some of the threads on getting married in Italy there are references to a couple of web sites with much more info on getting married abroad.
