Weather in Northern Italy in May

We are heading to beautiful Lake Como this Friday for 2 weeks (May 9-23) The 10 day weather forecast on the Internet looks rainy and cold (we hope it's wrong!) Does anyone have any insight into what we should expect typically for this time of year? Thank you

I was at Lake Como last year at the same time, the weather was gorgeous...bright sunshine and upper 70s to low 80sF every day. That was the same weather we found in all of Italy throughout our 16 days there last May, which might have been the precursor to the hot, dry summer that most of Europe was to endure.
While we were there, a number of Italian people that we spoke with remarked how unusual it was to be so dry at this time of year, and that it was ordinarily quite rainy. I've noticed from the forecasts I've seen that it looks like solid rain for the next 8 - 10 days pretty much throughout Europe.
I'm sure you'll have a great trip regardless, the area is spectacular, but nice weather always helps.
Good luck!

Thanks for the response Larry. You're right, it is incredible beautiful regardless of the weather, but a little sunshine goes a long way! ... fingers crossed

we went several years ago in early may and it was just right. not too hot- sweater weather- probably won't rain heavily or straight through even if it says for some days straight- there are bound to be breaks...bet you have plenty of nice weather...lucky you...

Today (May 5), it's still raining. It's supposed to stop for a bit on Saturday, and then we'll see.
My point of view is that it can't stay winter forever! When it does stop raining (and it will one day), I imagine that it will go from cold to hot overnight. We are way overdue for some sun! Make sure to bring a mix of clothes! I'm betting it'll be hot by the middle of May.
See you here.

Unfortunately, the forecast from now through the 10th on http://www.tempoitalia.it/previsione...&loc=Lecco is slight to moderate chance of rain - and in fact in our neck of the lake it's been raining fairly heavily most of the day.

The upside is that, when the clouds lift, the views will be stunning because the air has been washed very clean - none of the muggy haze we've seen on the few hot days we've had this year.

I had hoped to be out of my turtlenecks by now, but... <sigh>

I'm leaving for Verona tomorrow and I'm actually excited about the weather. I'll take spotty showers and temps 65-70 degrees over scorching heat any day!
