Warsaw and Krakow - Hotel Suggestions
My husband and I are planning a trip to Warsaw and Krakow in mid-September. Will fly into Warsaw spend a few days there then go to Krakow. Entire trip will be about 10 days.
Since we have not been what hotels would you suggest? Not interested in slumming it but don't have to stay at the Ritz either. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Would love to find a charming hotel, well located that has some historic value if that exists. Otherwise will opt for a sophisticated hotel, preferably that does not cater to large tour groups. We don't get out often and want to savour the area as much as possible.

As for Krakow - Saski or better Pod Roza or few more (Krakow has more options as far as charming hotels)

Welcome to Poland. Please consider a visit to Lichen while you are in Warszawa. The new cathedral and grounds are simply amazing. Try the 'Polonia' in Warszawa, it has just been dedone. It was the site of the USA Embassy at the end of World War II. It is centrally located. The 'Saski' is a good choice in Krakow. Consider a route from Warszawa to Krakow to include, Czestochowa and Wroclaw. Visit your favorite bookstore and scan a few Norman Davies books; God's Playground or The Heart of Europe. He has also written two more, one about Wroclaw and one about Warszawa. Wroclaw still has the 1936 Olympic venue site and it seems intact! Olympia Hotel is at that site.

Hi
We stayed at the Europejeski hotel last september. Enjoyed its atmosphere and great location. It is within walking distance of the major sights, icluding the old town, the university and has many restaurants and is a nice place to walk around. It's a 19th cent hotel destroyed by the Nazis and rebuilt after the War. There is a mural there showing what it looked like in 1945. A very comfortable place to stay.

sega61: We like small inns or hotels with lots of character, charm, good location and a friendly staff.
Two years ago, we stayed at the Europejski at Warsaw and while it is by no means small, it is grand (if a bit worn) in a 19th century style. It has a great location (center of the old town) and a very helpful staff. I saw a recent rate of 49 Euros and it is a three star.
At Krakow, we stayed at the Hotel Wawel-tourist and it fit the description in my opening paragraph to a tee. We really liked this small hotel. It was about $75 US.
You might want to consider wether you want to stay in Warsaw more than two days. Unless you want to take in all the museums (there are many), two days is enough; a day for the old town and a day for the newer section.
If you then spend three days at Krakow, you would have time to visit Zakopane for its beautiful mountains and Wroclaw for its old section and its fantastic Market Square surrounded by Burgher Houses. It rivals Brussels. There is more. It's a great City.
Poland is a wonderful Country to visit. The driving is easy if a bit slow. Your ten days will make you want to come back to see more. Have a great trip.

Hi
My Mom and I just recently stayed at the Europejski and found it to be very convenient and comfortable. The beds are very comfortable. One thing is that the hotel has been recently sold at the end of June, so I don't know if that will make a difference. I would stay there again in a second.
In Krakow we stayed at the Hotel Senacki. Beautiful room just a short walk from the main square. Everyone there was very helpful. The porter even got in his car and let me drive behind him to show me the way I needed to go for our next destination.

We didn't have dinner at the restuarant at the Senacki, but it is a beautiful dining room and looked like a good choice. Their breakfast was delicious. We did have dinner at a good Czech restaurant that was close to the senacki. It was a very small cellar restaurant. If I remember the name I will post it. We ate early as I was with my Mom, but I think it would be quite lively later in the evening.
