Warning on Venice

Not nice to tell you, but I MUST tell you what I read this morning on the local newspaper of Venice:

"San Marco, allarme salmonella da piccioni.
La denuncia in un rapporto riservato della Asl.
In un rapporto riservato si parla non più solo di rischi generici per la popolazione, ma di episodi concreti avvenuti in città. L’Asl segnala al sindaco alcuni casi d’infezione. E ci sono le zecche"

You can undesrtand, I presume.

Does this mean that they'll get rid of the wretched things?

I thought that my Italian was good enough but guess not i had to use babelfish.
For others like me, this is regarding Salmonella poisoning cases from contact with the pigeons in San Marco.

So this is what I got from babblefish:

Saint Mark, alarm salmonella from pigeons. The denunciation in a
classified relationship of the Asl. In a classified relationship more
solo is spoken not than generic risks for the population, but of
happened concrete episodes in city. The Asl marks it to the mayor some
cases of infection. And there are the zecche "

Makes perfect sense.

I'm guessing (hoping, since I'll be there in May) that if you don't feed them, or wash your hands if you come in contact with them, you'll be okay?

Salmonella are always and everywhere in birds' p**. They are in every chicken stable, too. No need to become paranoid right now.
Wash your hands afterwards, don't eat while you are among the birds and you should be fine.

Oh - and don't breathe while you are.

Thanks for the warning, V.

I'll be careful to not let pigeons poop on me.

My machine translation came out as
""San I Mark, you alarm salmonella from pigeons. ... signal to the some mayor cases d' infection. And there are the mints".

I am quite intrigued by the mints.

Ira, maybe the mints help with the nausea you get from the salmonella.

Well - I don't know why anyone would feed or play with the pigeons - there is little point in encouraging flying rats. And anyone who would then go and eat something without washing their hands - well what do you expect.

(Isn't this why one always washes hands before eating?

And yes, most chickens are also infected. That;s why you always immediately wash your hands and any plates, surfaces or utensils that have touched any raw poultry.
