Want to hire private driver while in Amalfi coast - any recommendations?

My friends and I are going to be spending 4 days in the amalfi coast next week. We want to be able to really see the Amalfi Drive, which means hearing about the history and stopping at sights. I know people have hired private drivers on occasion for this - does anyone have any recommendations and/or contact information for a driver? We really only need the rental for one day, but want to be able to really enjoy the trip. Any suggestions are extremely welcome.

Thank you!
Liz

I can recommend Francesco Marciano, via S. Maria della Pietra, 40, Sorrento, IT 80067. Car Phone: 0330-703-782. Spent an entire weekend with him as our driver. Wonderful person.

I highly recommend Giovanni Gargilulo, and his son, Giancarlo, who can be reached at: tourofitaly.com. We've used them many times, and sent several friends their way. They are based just outside Sorrento. Day trips with them have been highlights of our vacations to the Amalfi Coast.

I used Giovanni and Giancarlo in May - they were really great. Best money I spent in Italy!

Hi Egordon132
When we were in Positano 3 years ago we had Marcello Maresca, this is his web site.

http://www.seesorrento.com/chi_sono_eng.html

he picked us up at Naples train station and drove us to Positano. The following days he took us all over the Amalfi Coast, I have to say he made our visit very enjoyable..
I found him on another travel site, the girl who recommended him raved about him.. so do I. I have recommended him to at least 10 friends and they all said he was reasonable and has a very nice personality..
If you email him tell him you know Frank and val from NJ...

Have a great trip

In April 2004 we used Renato at cuomonet.it
He has a very comfortable, new van and is wonderful. He charged us 80 euro from Positano to Naples airport, and our hotel couldn't believe he was so reasonably priced. He offers tours of the area, including Pompeii.

I just want to thank everyone who recommended Giancarlo and Giovanni for drivers. My friends and I hired Giancarlo for an entire day to drive the Amalfi Coast. It was fabulous - couldn't have asked for a better experience. He took us to a bunch of out of the way places and really made the entire trip a phenomenal experience. And Giancarlo, if you are reading this, we passed along your name to several other people - hopefully you received some phone calls from them!

I would definitely recommend Giancarlo - enjoy Amalfi!!

egordon132,

I'm glad to hear that you had such a great experience with the Gargiulos! Are you going to post a trip report? Would love to read it! Thanks.
