We booked our June trip around the France Rail/drive pass for two traveling together offering 4 days train, 2 days car. Suddenly the plan has changed and the website shows the pass for only 2 days train travel and 2 days car. In your experience, does this happen at this time of year and will it change again in the next month or two? One can buy the pass only 90 days in advance, so we already have our air purchased, hotels reserved, etc. This will be a good deal more expensive than it was at 4 train days, 2 car. Thanks for your thoughts.

What web site are you talking about? I thought those kinds of things are packages put together by specific agents or companies or tour operators. Any operator can make up whatever kind of package they want.

The official French railways railpass is for four days minimum, however, so I would think an agent would combine that with some car rental package. I've never heard of a two-day French railpass so don't understand this package you are buying as to how they can do it.

Raileurope, for example, doesn't have any 2-day rail pass in their French rail/drive package and neither does Rick Steves.

To answer your question, no I can't imagine that any specific pass will change the number of days or benefits from time to time. Those things are very standardized. I suspect you either mis read the first time or the second. I'll ask too. What website are you talking about?

Wrong.

http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/ra...rail_drive.htm - - is indeed 2+2 - - if you bought it as 4+2 then I think you bought (or thought you bought) extra days, then I hope you hae some documentation of tht. Otherwise, I think it is what you THOUGHT versu what their web site shows.

I must clarify: The Raileurope website shows the France Rail/drive package that used to be 4 days of train and 2 of car has CHANGED. It is now just 2 days of train and 2 of car. I have planned our trip thinking we had 4 days of train, so now we have to add on 2 extra train days. Price is still $219 for train/compact car per person based on 2 traveling together. Since I have not made the purchase yet, I may decide to buy the 4 days train only (France Flexipass) and rent the car in Europe. We need only 4 car days total, one in Beaune and 3 in Amboise. Any thoughts? Thanks for all comments.

You may find that the one day rental in Beaune will be very expensive. This can be one of the advantages of a Rail'n'Drive pass. But in the end, you just have to do all the math, if aving is your first priority.
