I'm not really understanding how the connection in Villach Hbf works. I have read through the forums on here and tried reading the website but I just can't quite make sense of it!

I'll be making the journey from Salzburg, Austria to Venice, Italy and the way it is looking, I'll have to change to a bus once I get to Villach. Can anyone explain how I'll know where to go? I'm worried that I'll get turned around and will get stuck here!

Are you asking about train/bus connection?

I couldn't find anything on the web site either but when I took the train from Frankfurt to Prague I had to change to the bus in Nuremburg. The bus was right outside the main entrance to the train station. It was a long distance bus where your luggage is loaded underneath. I would imagine something similar in Villach as I can't believe anyone wants to confuse the traveling public.

You can book the 8:11 train which does not use a bus connection if you're concerned about the bus or stop into the train station when you arrive in Salzburg for more information.

Either way, I would not worry about finding the bus in Villach. The directions say to walk 5 minutes so the bus can't be far away. The bus I connected to had the same 5 minute transfer but that meant from the time you get off the train and get your luggage down and walk out to the main door at the slowest pace. It did not take 5 minutes.

The Austrian train website has a map. If you select the train/bus combo. If you enter Salzburg/Venezia and on the left side of the train/bus combo click the arrow for "see trip details". In the details where it says comments - walking distance 5 minutes - click the word map next to it (it's in red). That shows it.

That's helpful. It looks like the bus is right outside the train station.

I saw the walking 5 minutes thing too but I wasn't sure how clear it was when one got off the bus. I would hope it is pretty straight forward. Thanks all, I feel confident to buy the ticket!
