Villa Franca or Hotel Marincanto in Positano?

We are travelling to Positano in October and need advise on which hotel to choose. the have totally different vantage points and are on different sides of Positano. Is it better to be higher up(seems like better resturants are near Villa Franca) or lower with unobstructed view of Marincanto?
Really appreciate everyone's input.

I like the views from Villa Franca, you have the whole village beneath you and the sea beyond. Yet it is not a long walk into town (they do have a shuttle van). I can't place in my mind where the Marincanto is, sorry.

hi cindi
i just came back this week from positano. i stayed at the maricanto and i have to say it was lovely. the views are spectacular and the service of the hotel was brilliant. there is steps from the hotel down to the beach which take 3mins to walk or alternatively you can walk around the town which is short also about 10mins but its goes by so fast. you MUST go to a resturant we discover late in our trip "Da Constantino" they have a service which picks you up from the hotel (free)and the food was the best in positano. we could have eaten there everyday. its a family run place and has great views of positano. we went to le sirenuse on our final night for dinner and the food was appaling and double the price. I highly recommend maricanto its a really pretty hotel + you dont need a shuttle to get to the town as its easy walking distance. we past villa franca and its in the corner of the mountain therefore you might loose sun by 4 (a couple we met stayed in a hotel on the beach also and said they lost the sun by 4ish) we were fine til 6. it maybe earlier by oct. hope this helps.

We stayed at the Villa Franca last year and loved it. Room very nice and views were wonderful.

Even though the sea was great to swim in the best part of Villa Franca was lounging at the roof-top pool (w/bar) and relaxing enjoying the sun along with the town and coastline views all afternoon

- then changing for a drink (anywhere in town is great) and then the big choice, where to have dinner......try them all.....

Have a great time

Hi Nate and all.

Thanks for all of your input. My husband has decided he wants to drive so we have opted for Hotel Marincanto because they have free parking in October.
I know I owuld have loved villa Franca.
Next trip....
Nate, thanks for the tip on Da Constantino. We will definitely go there.

Really appreciate everyone taking time out to share expereinces. It is so difficult to decide. there are so many options!
Nate, did you have a regular room or a junior suite. How was the breakfast at the Marincanto??
