Anybody needs a hotel in Vienna?

It was my dream - to see Vienna. Booked Hotel Savoy (http://www.hotelsavoy.at/)
April 24 - April 30. 1 double room “Wiener Stil” Rate: 95,00 € per double room, per room per night including buffet breakfast, service and all taxes (instead of 118,00 &euro

Today my doctor said - I need a surgery.TOMORROW.

Called the Hotel - it's too late to cancel (less than 48 hr).
They said - if anybody books "my" room - they will refund some amount.

I understand - almost no chance, but...if somebody going to Vienna and looking for a great hotel for any of these days - mention my name, please - room was booked for Mike Platun.
Thanks.

I strongly recommend the Konig von Ungaren. Unique is overused but it really is. Not a huge, palatial place but great location just behind the cathedral, fantastic service, crisp, clean linens, lovely rooms (we had a two-story duplex), outstanding dining room. For a similar dining experience, also try the White Chimneysweep (I can't remember the name in German).

I have stayed at both but now only stay at the Sacher. It is more understated. The restaurants are better as well as the service. They will arrange opera tickets for you.

Dear Schrink,

Forget about the dollar!!

Our family stayed at the Sacher Wien for 4 nights last April. We are a pretty picky and spoiled bunch. I will say it is one of our favorite city hotels of all time...

Some things to love:

1. Great location to the Opera, shopping, churches, palace, spanish riding school etc. etc.

2. Beautiful hotel that is a mix of Viennese charm and wonderfully updated rooms. My girls are still talking about the bathroom they had there.

3. Helpful and courteous concierge.

4. I loved the little blue bar. Charming, charming, charming.

5. There is a wonderful spa if you like that sort of thing after a day of walking all over Schonbrunn (which I hope you will visit!!)

After we left Vienna, we checked into a different hotel in Salzburg "for a change" - well it was quite the letdown. We left and headed over to the Salzburg Sacher for a few more days of pampering.

Only 3 complaints:

1. We are dessert lovers and the Sacher Torte didn't thrill (although there are other wonderful choices...)

2. One night we wanted to have coffee and dessert in the formal restaurant where there is piano music, and although we were paying for 2 very expensive rooms and there were tables available, they would not accommodate us. My husband hates this sort of thing - I didn't mind as much. But then, I'm not paying the bill

3. My husband doesn't "do" expensive hotel breakfasts so we weren't "allowed" to have it and I can't say what that was like. We slummed it with croissants and coffee elsewhere. (Okay, most of the family loves a big hotel breakfast but we're again not the ones paying the bill. The bill payer went back to work before Salzburg and I will tell you - if you don't let out my secret - we had the most amazing breakfasts there we have ever had - every single morning

So, I highly recommend the Sacher!!

and if you love culture, Vienna has enough for days and days and days... We saw the symphony orchestra - wonderful! - and a Biedermeier exhibit - wonderful! and of course the palaces etc. Of course, the teen-aged girls mostly remember those bathrooms!!

Enjoy!

Surie,

You are welcome to come as long as you sign the "hotel breakfast" gag order before you board the plane!!!

Bet you can tell we have a lot of fun with the "breakfast wars" at our house
