Vienna - Suedbahnhof to Westbahnhof - best way?

Hello, We are arriving from Poland into Vienna at the Suedbahnhof train station, then we leave in an hour for Munich from the Westbahnhof train staion. Has anybody else ever done this? Would you recommend a tram, or taxi or...? And can this be done in an hour? Any ideas would be helpfull. Thank you.

You may take tram 18 direction Burggasse-Stadthalle directly to Westbahnhof. Or take local train (S-Bahn) from the basement of Südbahnhof to Meidling, where you change to U6 direction Floridsdorf to Westbahnhof. Buy ticket from automat or tobacconist.

With luggage and your time constraints, I would recommend a taxi.

If I were doing it, I would take a taxi, particularly if I had a lot of luggage. Of course luggage load is relative to strength and carrying ability. In terms of ease, the taxi is the best bet because you are not familiar with the situation.

The street cars or trams are relatively efficient, much more so than I thought they would be. The advantage to the taxi is that it gets you there without having to do much luggage hoisting. It is of course more expensive.
The connection at Meidling between the U6 line and the S-Bahn is, if I recall correctly, a long walk. (I don't recall precisely because I did not actually make that particular transfer. But I recall that the U bahn actually stops at the Philadelphiabrucke station and the S-Bahn stops at the Meidling station. They are not the exact same place.)
Tram 18 makes a stop almost directly in front of both train stations. The route it follows is about as direct as the Gurtel (belt) street route that the taxi would probably follow.

There is an alternative U bahn route.
From Südtiroler Platz, which is next door to the Südbahnhof, take U1 to Stephansplatz and then take U3 direction Ottakring to the Westbahnhof. The other two routes are probably preferable because the Stefansplatz station is on several levels, and you will be hoisting your luggage about.
What about a taxi? There are 4 of us. Would that be cheaper? Can we trust the taxi cab driver there? Thanks again.

Brian, I don't know if it is cheaper, but I think a taxi would be less hassle. I see no reason not to trust the taxi driver. I have found the majority of people in Vienna to be very honest and helpful.
