Vesuvius + Pompei In January
Hi all!
Traveling to Italy in January and wanted to see what is best way to see Vesuvius and Pompeii in January. Some have mentioned that the typical tours are shut down this time of the year, so any recommendations about how to get to the top of Vesuvius and how to tour Pompeii would be great!
Thanks!

To get to Vesuvius, there are mini bus tours from Ercolano station (called Vesuvius Express). They will get you there and include admission for 20 euro per person. Vesuvius is a National Park and opens at 9am.
If it is drizzly, raining, overcast then don't bother as you won't see any views. It will also be very cold so dress accordingly.
Both sites are closed on New Years' Day.

Looking like tours for Vesuvius are closed this time of year, but they take you to Pompeii and another site. Can anyone confirm that you can explore Vesuvius on your own in Jan, and just pay the entrance fee? Thanks!

You still need to get yourself to the entrance at the top of Vesuvius and a cab would be very expensive. Did you check Vesuvius Express? The shuttle that operates from Ercolano station? They are not a tour - just transport and as far as I know they operate year round.
