Sounds great. My personal feeling was that I didn't like Porto Cervo -- reminded me too much of home in Florida -- too developed and "non Italian". We loved our stay in La Maddalena. My opinion would be to use that as the four day base for those trips rather than Porto Cervo -- but that's just me.

My first plan was to spend the 4 nights in the Cala Gonone area. But then I found these websites:
http://www.lequerce.com/e_index.html
http://www.agriturismo-agrisole.com/inglese.htm
I've e-mailed them and I haven't heard back, as with most of the places I've e-mailed in Sardinia! Anyway, they both appealed to me I decided maybe to stay in this area. But, it's still up in the air.

Have you checked ferry schedules? The Palau-Napoli service runs only twice a week (www.medmarnavi.it). Otherwise, the nearest alternative is Olbia-Civitavecchia which has several services daily (www.tirrenia.it, www.mobylines.it or www.corsicaferries.com).

I had checked out

For the Palau-Naples ferry. It's leaving the day before I had planned to- I'll check the other sites, thanks. Is there anyway to buy the tickets before I get to Sardinia?

AP - If you're going in high season I would book as far in advance as possible, especially as Palau-Naples is such an infrequent service. The Sardinia ferries are usually very busy in summer ...
As regards Porto Cervo - I felt the same as Patrick. It seemed very fake - designed for the 'beautiful people' to park their yachts ... with *prices* to match.

I posted this on slowtrav for you but i'm not sure if you saw it:
Well first off, you're going in August, so expect very crowded beaches. You probably already knew that, but I was particularly turned off by Alghero when I was there. The beaches in Oristano province are generally very uncrowded and just as nice. I'd much rather stay in untouristed Oristano and see all the beautiful stuff around it than Alghero, but that's just me.
And I'm not sure how big of a beach person you are, but Sardinia in August is hoooooot and you're gonna want to be in the water. So definitely stop at Sinis for more than just Tharros, the beaches there on that peninsula are very nice and not crowded (further from the tip of the peninsula the better). There are other extremely beautiful spots near Sinis if you are interested.
Bosa is very pretty. Isn't a whole day thing though. Same for the Nettuno's, it's like a 30 minute tour. But the walk to the grotto is very nice (take the stairs if you can, great views).
Porto Cervo is a nice area, the town of Santa Teresa is very pretty. Lot of well-to-do people there and nice nightlife. And right next door is one of Sardinia's best secrets, the Valle della Luna (you can see some pics of it if you go to my pic site http://www.pbase.com/overthere/summertrip&page=4 or by going to my folder at the slowtrips part of this site).
Porto Cervo to Orosei is a long car ride. 90 Sardinian miles is like 180 normal miles - those roads are twisty and narrow. I would try to stay the night and take that next day to see Cala Mariolu. If I had to choose Orosei or Porto Cervo, I would choose Orosei.
And Sardinia really closes down in the winter, and is probably why no one has replied to you.
