Who's been to Corsica?

We're leaving to Corsica this weekend and staying at the Cala Rossa in Porto-Vecchio for five days. My searches haven't turned up much information and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for restaurants, shopping, fun stuff to do.

I stayed in a villa outside of Porto-Vecchio about two years ago. There are beautiful beaches a short drive away, in particular I would recommend Plage de Palombaggia. I would also strongly recommend a day trip to Bonifacio. It is a VERY dramatic city built on a cliff.l We also did a drive up into the mountains - the Foret de l'Ospedale, that I would strongly recommend. Unfortunately I am unable to remember any of the restaurants that we ate in, but as we were staying in a villa, with a 1 year old and 3 year old, I think we had a lot of meals at home. Have fun, it is a BEAUTIFUL island.

Haven't been to Corsica -- yet -- but I wanted a thread on which to post the link to this interesting NY Times article.

"On Trailblazing Corsica, Sausages With a Pedigree"

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/10/in...pe/10CORS.html

TAVERA, Corsica, July 7 ? It's not easy to find the hams and dried sausages of Julien Raffalli. The 60-year-old pig farmer and charcuterie maker refuses to sell to shops, avoids food fairs and will not advertise.

Customers must learn by word of mouth about the legendary products he prepares in a second kitchen off his living room. Or they have to spot, serendipitously, a small sign at the entrance to his hillside farm 20 miles from Ajaccio that says home-made charcuterie from local pigs can be found here.
