VERONA TO CHAMONIX
I need to get my MD from Verona to Chamonix in the shortest possible time, by train ideally - though i am looking at car hire. Does anyone know which route to take by Train? and can you supply web links. He's going in 10 days!

For international trains, www.bahn.de. It's a sod of a journey, taking at least 7 hrs and changing at Milan and usually a couple of places in Switzerland. It's not much quicker training to Geneva, then getting a taxi, either
I can't see it taking much over 3-4 hrs to drive - though remember you'll get zonked with dropoff fees (£00's) if he leaves the car at Chamonix or Geneva, and it'll be cheapest to drive back to Turin or Milan and fly home from there.
Quickest is probably flying from Verona to Geneva if there are flights (bet there aren't) or from Milan, then cabbing up.

If you pick the correct timing you'll have one change: Milan
beyond that there are several routes...either all the way to Geneva and on from there or perhaps changing in BOTH Sion and again in Martigny to bypass Geneva.
There are no budget flights out of Verona to Geneva, only Venice

Hi Debra - Another public transport option is bus. There is a bus service between Milan and Chamonix (- Mont Blanc tunnel route) - usually changing at Aosta or Courmayeur. This may be quicker than train.
But if cost is not an issue, driving will certainly be quickest.

You (AND Flanner) need to RE-READ my post..I said there was one change in Milan which there will be and then notice I said "BEYOND THAT" meaning BEYOND MILAN you either go all the way to Geneva and make your way from there OR you change in Sion and again in Martigny.
Sorry if this caused confusion....and I see the usual "last word" syndrome from the walker in the Cotswolds
