There is a *really* easy-to-use timetable feature which includes most of europe.
You will see that connections from Geneva to Bignasco will take from 5 to 7 hours and connections from Milan around 3 hours.
A detailled map of central Europe will help you understand the reasons for these travel times.

Phil, thanks for the great web site tip. What is your opinion about driving (renting a car)thru out the country of Switzerland. This will be the last week of August. Also,(don't laugh)If I do drive i need to avoid "long tunnels" do to my wife's extreme claustrophobia

What is a "long tunnel" to you? Switzerland's longest motorway tunnel is around 10 miles and there are several ones over 2 miles. I don't like the longer tunnels myself, especially if there is oncoming traffic.
From Milan there is a motorway all the way to Locarno (including three tunnels of more than 1/2 mile). From Locarno to Bignasco the drive follows a rather narrow winding mountain road.
It is quite a long drive from Geneva, first along Lake Geneva (yes, all of it, several tunnels included), then up the Rhone Valley to Brig, where you have the option of loading your car on the railway to cross the Simplon tunnel to Domodossola (from where winding mountain roads will take you to Bignasco). The other option would be to cross the Nufenen pass, drive down the ticino valley to Locarno.
If you are not an experienced mountain driver, you would do better not to attempt the drive from Geneva. The drive from Milan is doable, but will still be rather exhausting.
In conclusion, I would recommend that you take public transport and schedule a break (e.g at Locarno, which is rather charming).
