Verona is one of the few Italian cities which (according to my tastebuds!) makes delicious small pastries. This article is in Italian, but you can run it through Google translate to read about 2 of the more famous/highly regarded cafes for pastries, Flego and Tomasi

If you are a coffee lover, drinking and buying some coffee beans at Caffe Tubino is a treat (it's also sometimes called Caffe Borsari)

Piggybacking on the above post, the bakeries are wonderful. IMHO
Dolce Locanda on Via Cattulo is a don't miss. They have fabulous coffee there, too.
You might want to look at my blog--we spent 8 days in Verona in June 2015.

Favorite lunch was at Locand 4 Cuocchi. Modern Italian cuisine with traditional roots.
There's a great local place right near Porta Borsari called San Mateo Church. Lots of local business men and students eat there. They have really good pizza and salads too.
You can buy a pass for the 4 main churches which includes San Zeno (it was my favorite, too)
We loved Verona and will very likely return in 2016.

Juliet's Balcony is of course a must though of dubious authenticity - great for people watching as would-be Romeos posed down below would-be Juliets for pictures.
I also enjoyed Verona's neat outdoor markets - covered with large white sheets for shielding it from the sun or rain.
