We are going to Venice around October 10, is there a chance of flood at that time?

The floods are later, November and December I believe.

if you're talking about an inch or two, for an hour or two, over 25% of Piazza San Marco, then... sure, it could happen.

If you're talking about 10 or more inches, for 4 or more hours, then I predict that most years, it does not occur on October 10, specifically.

Yes, a chance, but nothing a couple of plastic trash bags couldn't defeat! Take black ones to be in style - the clear ones look tacky!

Is it perfectly reasonable then, to plan for this possibility by taking some black trash bags and then having them handy to tie onto one's shoes or boots? I'll be there Dec. 27-31. I've read that I should ask my hotel about boots, but I'm wondering how likely it is they'd have my size.

I was in Venice last week and there were floods in St. Mark's Square. It's not a big deal -- they set up walkways for everyone to walk on and to avoid getting wet. It wasn't raining or anything... but still a fun experience!
