Venice: Vaporetto 41, 42 and 12

I have read a lot of conflicting information about which vaporetto line to take from either S. Marco or S. Zaccaria to other lagoon islands.

We want to take the quickest/shortest line to both Murano and Burano. (I know a water taxi is the fastest transportation, but we would like to take advantage of the 72-hour pass.)

Does anyone have accurate information?

I don't remember the name of the line, but if you want the quickest routes to Murano and Burano, you should leave from Fondamenta Nove (vaporetto lists it as F.TE NOVE). It is on NorthEast edge of Venice. It's probably about a 20-minute walk from San Marco. Map: http://en.venere.com/common/tmp_map/map_rm8fYZ.gif

You can go to www.actv.it, the Web site of the Venetian transport system, vaporetti and busses. There is an English version.

You can put in point of departure and point of arrival and the time slot and it will tell you what vaporetto to take.

I seem to remember that you can also search according to points of interest.

BrentA100 - The Fondamenta Nove is too far away from our hotel. Thanks anyway.

Eloise - I will check out the web site, as you suggested.

Hi,
my son and i are just back from a trip to Venice and here's what we did: we took waterbus 41( i think) to Murano. Ask the water taxi captain. On the way back we stopped off at Burano, spent a few hours there and then came back to San Marco. All the water taxis depart from San Marco, a few yards away from the regular ones going up and down the Grand Canal. The ride to Murano took abouyt 25 minutes. From Murano you have to take a water taxi to the opposite side from where you are dropped off , a minute's ride, to catch the water taxi for Burano. This one is 42 and it loops around to Torcello too, after dropping people off at Burano, a 20 minute ride. The ride back from Burano to san Marco took about 45-50 minutes. The entire excursion from San Marco to Murano, browsing and a glass-blowing demonstartion , the ride to Burano, shopping for some lace and a snack there, the ride back to San Marco all together took us 5 unhurried hours. We spent the morning at the Friari and left at 3 and were back in time for dinner at 8.
Hope you have a wonderful trip. Burano was very enchanting, with homes painted in the most extravagant colors.

Sorry folks, I did not mean Water Taxi, expensive stuff, would have cost as much as the iarfare to Venice from Rome for those island hops,, but Vaporettos, the water Bus.
