Venice to Zurich by train, should we stop in Luzern?

I'm coming back from Venice to Miami via Zurich. I'll be taking the train from Venice to Zurich.

I've been reading some postings and they said Luzern is a beautiful city, even more beautiful than Zurich.

Do you think it's worth it to stop in Luzern and walk around for a few hours?
or just go directly to Zurich and spend the day over there??

What an easy question. Absolutely go to Luzern!! There is no comparison between the beauty of Luzern vs. Zurich. Not that I'm knocking Zurich, but if I had only one day to spend in either of these cities, there would be no contest.

To give a one word answer to the question about stopping in Luzern: YES.
And visit the transportation museum.

Yes, one of the most beautiful places that we have visited. Take a boat ride or go to Weggis, then up cable car.

Of course you must realize that you run the risk of staying there a long time!!
So rev up your will power if you only have a day or two!! Luzern is addictive.

If you are staying overnight in Lucwerne, perhaps you should do that in Lucerne Zurich.

Sorry, the previous post left before editing. That should have been :

If you are staying overnight in Switzerland, perhaps you should do that in Lucerne instead of Zurich. Luccerne - Zurich is not a long way.

It is no more than an hour by rail from Lucern to Zurich and you can get rail connections directly to the Zurich airport.

You appear to have only "a few hours" to spend which isn't much time to do much more than perhaps walk around the old part of the city.

STAYING overnight might be an excellent alternative depending on what time your flight leaves from Zurich the next day. It would at least give you more time to explore Lucern which is, for most people, rather interesting.

We are finally leaving tomorrow to Italy and Switzerland.

We decided to take an overnight train from Venice to Luzern and spend the day over there.
I'm very excited about this trip. It's my first time to both countries.

Thanks for all the information, it really helped us a lot.

In 2 weeks I will tell you how we liked Luzern.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!!!
