Venice to Rome and 7am flight! Help Please
Hello all --
Another question. We'll be in Venice until Oct 31 and we fly out of Rome on Nov 1. The rub is our flight leaves at 7 am. From what I can tell, the overnight train from Venice gets in too late for the flight. So, what do you suggest as far as the following:
Should we stay in a hotel the night before? If so, is there some sort of service that can get us to the airport that early (a safe one for women!)?
Or, should we just get to Rome really late (from venice) and rough it for a few hours at the aiport and try to sleep a little there???
Your comments are appreciated on this sticky situation!
Thanks!

I had a similar question (although I ended up booking reasonably-timed flights). See here:

Our flights out of Rome have always been very early in the morning. We stay in Rome the night before and have our hotel arrange transportation for us, or reserve something ourselves. This is an excellent service: [email protected]
We're too old to hang out in the airport and try sleeping there, with a 12-15 hour flight (Rome to London and then on to SFO) ahead of us. The one good point about an early morning flight is that there is little or no traffic so you get there in a much shorter time than you would when traffic's heavy.
I guess it's up to you whether or not you wish to stay the extra time in Venice and end up at the airport hours early. We couldn't do it. Some people prefer staying at a hotel near the airport. We've never done that so can't recommend a hotel. There are threads on the subject, if you do a search.

Hi reed,
I suggest you get to Rome the day before, see a little of the city, and have your hotel book a shuttle service or taxi to get you to the airport about 5-5:30.
It is much safer than trying to sleep at the airport.

Personally I would never try to sleep at an airport, intentionally, but people do this. There are even websites that tell about the different airports and how to best pull this off.
I would definitely go back to Rome by train or plane the day before and book a hotel. Have the hotel front desk arrange early morning transportation to the airport. Or look into hotels that are at the airport (not familiar with the situation in Rome).
