Venice or Verona?

We are planning to see an opera or singing performance while in Italy, anyone with experience on a good venue for this?

When? Seeing an opera at the Arena in Verona is a MUST if you are there from the very end of June to the end of August (or does it run into September now?)

Neo--are you an opera lover? I've never been to one, but if I did, I'd like to go to one in Italy. Do you need to purchase tickets in advance for the Arena in Verona, do you know?

I'm a theatre person, not an opera buff but I do enjoy it.
One year we were too early for the opera in Vernona. Another year four of us were going and we bought our tickets and booked our hotel nearly a year in advance. The opera was Aida. As luck would have it, we spent the evening in and out of the rain as they kept delaying the start. Finally at about 11 they cancelled the performance without ever starting it. So I still haven't seen one there.
The Arena is huge. You can buy tickets on line. I'm not sure if they sell out or if you can usually get tickets at the last minute.

Too bad if you are too late for the Verona opera season... We saw Aida there 2 years ago and it was really something. Just a fun evening.
