Venice, Italy hotel suggestions
Hello!
My husband and I have a Greek Isles cruise departing from Venice, Italy next August. I am about to book our hotel for the night before the cruise leaves but am unsure of what area to book in.
I do Priceline Express deals because their pricing usually can’t be beat. I just want to make sure I book in the right area of Venice.
The different areas they offer are Treviso, Saint Mark Square (Grand Canal), by the airport, Mestre city (mira- mirano), castello, And marcon.
Which hotel area is by the cruise port?
We plan to explore into the main town in Venice the morning the cruise leaves, so it might be best to be downtown.
Thank you!!

Sorry, I meant to write :
First forget Treviso, Mestre city (mira- mirano), and marcon. They are not in Venice proper. If you have no choice other than San Marco and Castello, take one or the other. They are not particularly close to the Cruise Port but at least closer than the other choices.

We had an enormous room at Ca' del Nobile in Venice for a week last Christmastime for under 100 euros a night. It was a brief walk to the detestable San Marco area, but on a quiet back street. Very easy to roam around the city from there.

Hotels closer to Piazzale Roma are probably not as expensive as those in San Marco or Castello, so you might bypass Priceline and go straight to the hotel booking site.
Since you mentioned cruise, I am presuming you have a lot of heavy and luggage in a tow? If you choose any hotel in Venice, understand how you get to your hotel as most hotels require walking or a water transportation plus walking. If you think you can get there by walking from Piazzale Roma (the final point of taxi or buses) or from the Santa Lucia train station, do an trial online walk using the google earth to understand how long and how many bridges with steps you have to haul your luggage. You can ask hotel how you get to the hotel with a lot of luggage. If you have to use a water taxi, savings you might have achieved using a Priceline deal can be easily wiped out.

Stay in Venezia because it is a unique place. We've been to Venezia many times and it grew on us. Although, since the cruise lines built docks the city is crowded day and night, but still worth the visit.
We like the Hotel Abbazia in the Canneregio quartiere near the railroad station. It's a former Carmelite Monastery located on a quiet calle (alley). The property is extremely clean and the staff is first rate. It's about a 20 minute walk to San Marco and this will give you an opportunity to see more of the city.
One suggestion: Leave the main areas and get lost in the back streets. It is a very different place in these areas and completely safe.
Buon viaggio,
