Venice Hotel with a view?

Looking for a hotel in Venice with a nice view of the Grand Canal that won't break the bank. If that's possible!?!

Thank you!

Well, it depends on how well funded your bank is.

"Nice View" will include water buses, water taxis, boats with rubbish, and every delivery boay you could imagine.

It is very busy, a bit noisy, and it's not just gondolas.

Yes, watching all of the various "work" boats going about their business along the Grand Canal each morning was wonderful. My wife is a late sleep, and I'm an early riser.

I really enjoyed watching the delivery boats (fruits/vegetables; hotel linens; Beck's beer; furniture; paper products; etc., etc.), police and fire boats, trash boats, vaporetti, water taxis, and just about every kind of "business" boat every morning. And not just the boats, but the manual effort involved in loading, unloading, and carting all of the materials in a city with no motorized vehicles on land. I loved it.

La Galleria just by the Accademia bridge has double rooms on the Grand Canal and is cheap (135 euro if you pay cash) but some rooms are tiny. I had to climb over the end of the bed to get in. Room 10 is supposedly the best. It was wonderful sitting in the window of our room eating breakfast (the best hotel coffee we've experienced in Venice) looking directly over the canal.

I don't mind the activity. I think of it as a unique experience!

Paul - where did you stay?

Watching this post with interest, I am driving myself crazy drooling over the beautiful canal pics that people have posted on TripAdvisor...

Hotel Galleria looked marvelous, but there was no double room with bath available on my one night in May, would have been 185 euros. They recommended Casa Rezzonico in Dorsoduro, looks like 160 euro.

Hotel American Dinesen looks lovely, on a side canal, but it is $292 for a non-canal view, I like the location.

Sorry to hijack your thread, ChrisX2, but we are looking for the same thing! I want to be able to hang out the window and stare at a canal for a while...

Gigib - Not a problem! I'm posting another direct question regarding two other hotels I found - Hotel Canal Grande and Al Ponte Antico. Hope to get some input on them.

Chris, I just spent loads of time researching the same thing, so i "feel" your curiosity!

There are hotels and inns with canal or sea views, but not specifically the Grand Canal.

La Calcina has a sea view, but it is not of the Grand Canal.
Ca San Giorgio has one or two rooms with canal view but again, it's not the Grand Canal.
Ca Angeli is right on the Grand Canal--their guest areas (lobby and dining room)have great views of the GC --i think some of their rooms do as well.

After all the research, I ended up booking Campiello Zen B and B, which has a reasonable price, a location i wanted, and excellent revieews on TA... but did not have a water view from the room. That will have to wait until we walk outside!

Have stayed in Ca Angeli - and yes the public rooms have wonderful views.
You can sit in a sort of library area and the big windows open and have little window seats.
As my daughter sat there the people on the canal were waving to her and taking her photo!
Our room/apartment did not have a grand canal view but I understand that some of the rooms do.

ChrisX2--it was many years ago, but we stayed at Hotel Continental (Lista di Spagna, Cannaregio 166), not far from S. Maria station. We had a corner room that looked directly across the Grand Canal from one window, and up the canal (towards the Ponte Degli Scalzi) from the other window.
