Venice hotel/bnb, early morning flight
Hello,
We would be staying in venice for 3 nights and finally flying out of venice on an early morning flight (7am).
People have recommended that staying near piazzle roma is not necessary , but I am still confused which is a best location to stay in this case which I believe is a pretty common among people flying out of venice.
I found a thread here which lists some good suggestions near piazzale roma
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...zzale-roma.cfm
Still open to suggestions. found arlecchino a good deal, also olimpia looks good.
thanks

We have left Venice more than one time for a 7AM flight. You will not need a water taxi or to stay the last night near the car park. Just walk out of San Marco to the water and turn right. Just a little ways down will be the alilaguna ticket booth. You can buy your ticket within 24 hours of using it. They will tell you the earliest boat that will be leaving. You probably need to take the 5AM one. It takes about an hour to get to the airport, but the airport is small and will barely be open when you get there.

as suggested by marty, the first aliguana from san marco starts at 3:40 which reaches airport at 5am. The next one would reach at around 6:10am which would be late i guess.
And mind you this would be a sunday , in aliguana schedule I didn't find anything which speaks of different schedule for sunday. So aliguana is doable I guess then

there is no need to compromise either in where youstay or by paying for an expensive water taxi if you don't want to, when you have an early flight from Marco Polo.
Alilaguna is a good option, the vaporetto is also running at that time as well. So you could plan to arrive at Piazzale Roma to catch the 5 am ATVO fly bus to the airport, getting there at 5:20 am.
Marco Polo is a smaller airport and frankly not much is going on before 05:30, so arriving between 5 and 5:30 would work just fine.

I've stayed at Al Ponte Mocenigo twice and would stay there again. Perfect place for me, though some may prefer a bigger lobby and more amenities. Not me. I love the location, close to transportation and sights yet in a quieter neighborhood.
I don't know anything about Al Duca di Venezia.

I've stayed at Hotel Ala (about 14 years ago). The hotel is located very near a vaporetto stop in San Marco. I remember a nice breakfast and the hotel was fine.
The Al Ponte Mocenigo would be closer to P. Roma and the morning bus to the airport. Hop on the vaporetto and in 10 minutes you will be at P. Roma. You could even walk it in about 10 minutes. The bus takes 20 minutes to reach the aiport terminal doors. I try to get to the airport about an hour prior to my flight. If your flight is a direct to the US, you should arrive earlier.

How about Casa Santa Maria Formosa , location and price looks good.
Otherwise final bet would be on Al Ponte Mocenigo.
I am not worried too much about the location now , given aliguana is there early morning from San marco, plus I can also take vaperreto from rialto and then ATVO bus.
Please advise

I can second Ellenem's vote for Al Ponte Mocenigo..stayed there last October and would certainly return. Excellent location, very cordial management. Just a quick, straight walk from the San Stae vap stop..close to one of our favorite restos, La Zucca...good gelato around the corner from hotel..what more can one ask in Venice.

we have never stayed at Casa Santa Maria Formosa, but Campo Santa Maria Formosa is one of our favorite spots in Venice. It is well located, not far from the main attractions but still has a very neighborhood feel to it. We have stayed in apartments a few steps from the campo several times. There are good restaurants in the area and La Boutique del Gelato (our favorite in Venice) is very close by on Salizada San Lio.
