Venice - Hotel Antiche Figure - worth the money?

Hi:
We've been to Venice before and know the hotels get top dollar, but has anyone stayed at the Antiche Figure?

It gets great reviews on tripadvisor but is $325/night for a "Canal View Double Room".

We want something special and don't mind paying that much if it truly IS special.

Any and all comments much appreciated.
Thanks!
Carol

to Franco's opinion of Antiche Figure. Franco knows Venice like the back of his hand, having spent some eight months there over the past years.

Thank you so much for replying.

Many years ago we had the $100 rule - no hotel over $100 a night. As long as it was clean and had it's own bathroom we were fine.

Well, times have changed, the dollar has shrunk (and we can afford to spend more), but I still have a problem paying so much for a hotel room!

Like my husband says, all we're going to do is sleep there.

I'm definately rethinking the Hotel Antiche Figure. I checked out some of the rentals from the thread you sent and we can get a room for way less than half the price!

Thanks again to you for letting me know and to Franco for all of his good information,
Carol

Franco is an incredibly valuable resource, in particular on Venice, but also on Rome. He's not very active at the moment, but he has left some priceless information.

He has two threads on sightseeing in Venice and restaurants on Venice.

Put "franco" (he doesn't use a capital in his screen name) into the Search box and look up the threads called "Franco's Favourite..." about Venice.

I'm sure you'll find valuable information there.

And you might want to add your thank you to one of his threads.

Grand Canal view from that hotel includes the Santa Lucia (modern-concrete) Railway station in front of the hotel so that's what kept me considering this hotel for my trips. However, the reviews about this hotel seem mostly highliy positive so there must be lots of good things about this hotel. USD325 (not € isn't it?)for when ? The price change according to the seasons. If this is a 3 star hotel, that must be their high season rate. For Grand Canal view room with 4 star rating I recommend Foscari Palace by Ca'd'Oro vaporetto stop. 4 star + qualities for 3 star price. Deluxe double Grand Canal view was €160 (winter low season) and no modern building around like the railway station area where Antiche Fiigure is.

Kappa:
Thanks for the info. The rate we have for the Antiche Figure is their high-season rate for the best room in the hotel.

Also, I believe I tried the Foscari Palace and they were booked. In fact, many places were booked which is why I went ahead and booked the Antiche Figure - I think I was getting into a "panic" mode as I know things book up quickly (even four months in advance).

Well, I woke up the next morning and wondered why I ended up paying $325 for a room!

I'm not sure what we'll end up doing, but I feel now that I have some excellent information.

I've been using this site since 1999 and find it invaluable for travel.

Thanks everyone,
Carol
