Venice Experts Please Help
Can you advise on the best way to get 11 people from Marco Polo to San Marco.
I think we would prefer to go via the water.
If anyone knows the cost involved that would be helpful too.
thanks,

You can take the Alilaguna for 12 Euros each. It's slow but it gets you there. There is an express that's a bit faster that arrives at San Zaccaria stop and it's 25 Euros each.
A water taxi is more expensive and for 11 people you'd probably need 2 of them They usually run 70-100 Euros.

Hi cathsomm, to get to San Marco you will have to go via water as Venice proper does not have streets but rather canals, the Grand Canal being the major canal (think of it as a major freeway). Or maybe you meant that you did not prefer to take the land bus to Piazzale Roma and catch water transportation there?
I think the private taxi would be 90 to 100 euro per taxi and with your group you would need two taxis.
Here is the Marco Polo website which will give you information regarding the various public transportation. Click on the flag in the upper right hand corner of your screen for the English language version.

We always use water taxi since the approach is so unforgettable - but I think the max number of passengers is 8 - esp with luggage. I would do Alliguna if budget matters - but do realize you'll have to deal with your own luggage on and off docks.

You could check with these guys and get a rate for 11 people:

The Alilaguna is great, but for 70 Euro more or so to have taxi service would be better. 200 euro for two taxis is only 18 euro pp. The extra 6 euro each = totally worth it.
