What would be our best bet? Vaporetto, private taxi? Can you provide ideas of prices?

Hello Minnie, when you ask what is your best bet are you referring to getting from the Marco Polo Airport in Venice to your hotel in Venice and possibly from your hotel in Venice back to the airport? Not sure what you mean by your "best bet". A private taxi boat is certainly the most relaxing especially if your hotel in Venice has a dock so that your water taxi can take you right to your hotel. Cost around 80 Euro.

Vaporetto is the public water bus...like a land bus.

The cheapest way from Marco Polo is by bus, but it is by no means the nicest.

A taxi would be a good idea if you are new to Venice and want to be delivered directly to your hotel.

Their ticket office is in the airport and they have a free shuttle bus to the quay. It's actually not too far to walk and there are trolleys at each end with a euro deposit.

I agree with both of the above posts - go by water taxi or vaporetto. Decide on the basis of price and whether you will be jetlagged from a flight (prefer water taxi) or already pretty much working on local time (vaporetto, which takes longer as it stops at Murano and the Lido on the way). Here are your transportion options in Venice, in increasing order by price. Note that you can walk from one side of Venice to the other pretty easiliy, so it is not that important to get a ride to your exact destination (unless you have luggage).

Land bus, airport to Venice' edge: stinky old bus, probably about 3 euros.

Vaporetto (water bus); many stops, about a euro per trip.

Alilaguna. The airport shuttle, stops in a few spots in the city, don't use for public transportation though. About 10 Euro to/from the airport.

Water taxi. Goes right to your destination (or as close as possible). 80 Euros from the airport, but that's for the whole taxi, not per person.

Gondola. This is like a horse-drawn carriage ride in NYC -- strictly for tourists, fun if you like that sort of thing. Near a 90 euros per trip, but you can negotiate or find something cheaper.

A single trip ticket on a vaporetto (water bus) is 3.50 euro. A 90-minute Grand Canal ticket (you can get off and on several times in the 90 minutes) is 5.00 euro. There are also one and three-day passes. http://www.actv.it/

Gondolas are for tourist these days, but they also have the advantage of being able to get you onto smaller, out of the way canals so you can see parts of the city that many visitors don't even know exist. Use the vaporetti for cruising the Grand Canal; try a gondola ride for the more hidden areas.

I guess I forgot to specify from where I wanted to take the taxi. Upon arrival I will be going from the train station to the hotel(Locanda Orseolo) and then when we are leaving from the Hotel to the airport.

Hi Minnie, what a great choice for a honeymoon. If the ride to the airport is on leaving Venice, definitely take the slow Vaporetto ride and soak in the last views of Venice as you leave.
