Venice Casino
Can anyone share information on the casino in Venice? I read a website that said it is the must see nightlife, but I'd not seen much in the guidebooks. Is it worth visiting? If so, how expensive is it, what games do they have and what is the dress code?
Thanks.
Thanks.

The Ca' Vendramin Casino is situated in Cannareggio and you can reach it by ferry getting off at San Marcuola stop. It was Richard Wagner's house and its rooms are still very well preserved with some original furniture and stuccos all around. As regards the games you can find: roulette, chemin de fer, black jack and slot machines. Jacket and a tie are usually preferred. There is a restaurant too. You can get plenty of info at www.vendramincalergi.com

I haven't been for 2 years, but the casino has traditionally relocated to the Lido location from about May to September, then back to the Grand Canal for the fall/winter.
The Grand Canal building is quite grand and the casino fairly formal. Jackets are required for men (they have some available to borrow--tho I have been told they actually charge a small fee!). I believe that Wagner was a guest in the house when he died.
There is a small fee to enter at both locations and you need to present your passport. The minimum stakes are fairly high compared to other casinos but you could just walk around and observe and have a drink if you didn;t feel lkie wagering.

I think you should count on $25 minimum for blackjack and roulette, and $50 for the baccarat. I've seen $5 blackjack and $10 roulette but the tables were overly full! The slots range from 1 euro up. At the Lido, the slots area is actually accessible without entering The Casino proper and has a very casual dress code but is not really much of a James Bond experience! I've never actually looked at the slots area at the Ca'Vendramin but assume the same.

Good morning, mdtravel
As COCO mentions the casino moves from
its location along the Grand Canal to
the Lido and returns each year. If you
are in Vemice during the time the casino
is on the Lido, look into the vaporetto
schedules for the Lido as there was a
boat which did make a stop at the
casino. As it is about 6-8 blocks from
the S. M. Elizabetta, main vaporetto
stop on the Lido. Dress for slots is
casual, however for the gaming tables
a jacket is required for the men.. You will also need you passport to register
along with a smallentrance fee..Main
interests are slots, however did go into
the table area to watch roulette, there
were about 6=8 tables and the games
moved around from table to table, could
not see a reason why for this movement,
the only thing really different was the
table cloth....Richard of LaGrange Park,

In December, the hotel I am staying at, La Forcola, says it offers free entry to the casino (which is a very short walk away). So I will likely go, although I probably wouldn't otherwise if I had to pay.
I usually do not bother worrying about clothes, but would I be okay if wearing walking shoes here? My outfit would likely be dark pants, dark shirt, blazer, and walking shoes. Are women expected to wear dress shoes instead? I would consider wearing a dress with a blazer, but then it would seem dress shoes are more necessary.

HI WillTravel--if by walking shoes, you mean sneakers, then the answer is no--they do not admit men in sneakers. My husband had on black leather walking shoes and those were OK but my son was denied entrance b/c he was wearing Nikes.

The Lido casino closed for good about three years ago. and the casino on the Grand Canal (Ca' Vendramin) is now open year-round. There's now also a casino near the Venice airport which is very popular with local residents but hardly a tourist attraction.
