Venice ..Canal View for under 200 night?
I'd like any current info about a Venice hotel with a canal view for a reasonable rate. We will be going the beginning of July.
We were able to get frequent flyer award tickets and have decided(today) to visit Tuscany and Venice.
We will be flying into Florence and spending a week based in Montelpuciano and then taking a train to Venice.
We will have 3 nights in Venice before flying home via Venice.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
Thanks

It may be a bit late to find this but here are some places to try. The Galleria is the most often mentioned moderate price. Not all the rooms have a canal view. It is just at the foot of the Accademia bridge. Some report it can be noisy there though depending on your room. You'll also need A/C in July. I think Galleria has it. The Hotel Ala is another good one. The Marconi is near the Rialto bridge & has some Canal facing rooms but you don't want to stay there unless they'll guarantee a Grand canal view. La Calcina is on the Guidecca Canal (not the Grand) & many poeple love it there. It was recently posted they were doing construction/renovation there. Don't know if it's completed. You can also try the Do Pozzi (owned by the same people as the Ala.)
You may want to try "shopping" for availability for your dates on venere.com & then check out the available places directly for availabel views. Good luck!

Try Locanda Sturion. It's on the Grand Canal near the Rialto bridge. I think not all of the rooms have canal views, but ours had a great one.
Also--it's a long flight of stairs up to the hotel. Didn't bother us, but might bother you.

We've booked a canal view room at the Hotel Wildner (http://www.veniceby.com/hotelwildner/) in Venice for $200/night. It's received mixed reviews on these boards and elsewhere, but we're giving it a shot. The woman I spoke with there was very helpful and it looks like a nice place with a gorgeous view. Best of luck to you!

I just stayed at the Pensione Wildner May 22-25. I thought it was a great value: the staff, particularly Elisabetta, could not have been more pleasantly helpful and the view of the lagoon was the stuff of dreams. The room was spotless, and tastefully decorated in a 1950s European modern way. On the downside: no elevator, and being right on the lagoon there was boat noise during the day. Don't be put off by the shabby lobby; it's not an indication of the rooms at all. We paid 200 euro a night for a full view and felt we got every dime's worth.

Dick: The Leon Bianco is a very good place to stay, and, as I have said before, I think I have stayed in every room there over many trips to Venice, but I do not think they have air conditioning. You will need it in the July. Be sure to check, if you decide to stay there.

It is a bit late, so I'll throw this one out. On our 1996 trip to Venice, we stayed at the Continental Hotelnear Santa Lucia station on Lista di Spagna and the Grand Canal. Don't know if they have would have any vacancies, but friends have stayed there since at around $150 for a double with a canal view. We had a corner room with 2 windows so we had views both up and across the Grand Canal.
While it's not the ideal location--about as far west as you can get in historic Venice, it really isn't bad as Venice is not all that big for walking, and there's a vaporetto stop and bridge to Santa Croce sestieri within 2 minutes of the hotel.
By the way, you can go here to see traffic on the Grand Canal by webcam in more-or-less real time:

I stayed at the Galleria and believe me having a canal view was not as nice as I thought it would be. There was traffic throughout the night and it sounded as if the windows would break.
The best thing about it was it was very cheap. So if you bring ear plugs it will be worth it although you do have to share the bathroom with others, but for me that's no longer a problem. It's amazing what you get used to.

Hi,
We're leaving for Europe in a few days and we have booked Hotel Caneva (we will have a small room on a small canal). I understand the hotel is very simple and I've heard positive things about it....So, if you're interested...
zil (we'll be paying 100e/nite)
