Patrick, my defensive darling, both our high horses have been beat to death. Mine looks and feels like Hillary Swank at the end of "Million Dollar Baby," poor thing. It's time to bring my participation with you in this to a close. The written record is clear. Readers and researchers can decide for themselves. I have nothing more to add other than I don't own a Rolex. Never have. And I don't wear jewelry, at least not the ostentatious sort. And I own plenty of designer clothes that have been given to me for free.

I do believe in miracles and I most certainly surround myself with people who do, too. Therefore, I have a life filled with many too-good-to-be true's. So I wish this for everyone else which was my sole purpose for starting this thread.

Cynics begone! Everyone else, enjoy.

Gee, I thought our conversation was already closed, my "defensive darling".

No comment, other than for readers to look at response # 14 above that begins with my comment "Thanks for clearing up some issues, mdaniels" and then ask what the hell all the screaming about my cynicism was for.

Screaming? I don't recall writing anything in caps. Words, Patrick, words.

" It's time to bring my participation with you in this to a close."

Another phrase you apparently don't understand the meaning of.

Hi Everybody on this thread!

I'm hugely enjoying this "discussion," as it were! (grin) Guess what I've been doing off and on for the past few days? Emailing innkeepers all over Venice! In Italiano, no less! (but with the capable assistance of babelfish to act as an aid to correct grammar). You know, by doing things this way, I'm getting quoted rates that are quite a bit lower in some instances than what is advertised even on their own websites, and I'm liking that! Am looking now at 2 newly renovated properties practically on top of San Marco (which is where I want to be-other areas can wait for another stay). One a 4 star with only 6 rooms (but it has a restaurant-not a breakfast room-its own restaurant!) and the other a cheaper Locanda, but a nice one-I think. As usual, I'm wracked with indecision-the above are not my favorites-as usual, the favorites are unavailable. TexasAg-I would hate to hear what your bad Venice experience was like!

RialtoGirl-If I go, (am not sure at this point if I'll be able to go) I'll be there in the low season-mid March-hugely good airfares and rates at this time-but of course, chilly! (I don't like chilly, either). I should think Easter time would be better, but it's hugely expensive, then, no?

So? What's your point, Mr. All Caps? Three weeks can make quite a bit of difference!

Mr. Brancalion was unable to offer us the dates I was looking for -- he had only 3 or 4 consecutive days free in that period.

So I declined, writing that I would hope to save the pleasure for another trip and that he is fondly remembered on Fodors.com.

On my return to these pages, I see the brushfire that has erupted.

Gee, is this fight worth having?

All I can say is that Mr. B. seemed very obliging in his emails.

"Gee, is this fight worth having?"

Tedgale, wouldn't you stand up for those you love?

I returned from my six-week visit to Italy on February 5th. When I saw this thread for the first time since I had posted, reply #5 and #6 caught me by surprise. I never expected a respected, veteran poster here to challenge the integrity and legitimacy of Signore Brancalion's pricing. I couldn't believe what I was reading.

Even though I think it's OK to be curious about the difference in price (is it really anybody's business?), the negative inferences alluding to a sham (the word "wrong" was used three times in one post), including the intimation that I might be lying about older postings really offended me. I don't like cynics, I don't like bullies, and I keep negative thinkers at arm's length at all times.

At the very least, I think the appropriate way to handle a pricing query would be to contact the owner directly and not offer, especially on a public forum, negative presumptions and cynical assumptions. This is not the example of a gentleman.

If I hadn't been so close to this project or didn't care about the people involved, I would have ignored the cynicism, as I do in many other posts. But that wasn't the case here and I felt I had to speak up.

Marc thinks the reason it's hard to find many glowing reviews of Regina Vittoria is because once people stay there, they want to keep their "find" a secret. Apparently, Regina Vittoria has many return customers and nobody wants to see their favorite apartment in Venice become unavailable. Good luck to everyone who tries to stay there now.
