Venice: Ala & Flora Hotels (?)

Many posters have mentioned both positively, but few, if any, say why they're worth staying at. Would some of you be kind enough to post some specific comments in that regard.

Many thanks,

Beth

Beth,

A friend stayed at the Hotel Ala, and I believe she said that it had been recently refurbished. She enjoyed her stay there.

GK

I stayed at Hotel Ala last year and the room was lovely. Good size, large bathroom, beautifully decorated, comfortable easy chairs by the window overlooking canal.
Breakfast was good, but breakfast room was crowded and noisy so it paid to get there early. Good location, 5 minutes walk from San Marco and 10 minutes walk to Accademia bridge. Vaporetto stop 1 minute's walk from hotel.

Beth I haven't stayed at either (I was just at the Accademia) but I think the answer to your question is location, location, location - for the price. Both these hotels are very centrally located. The Ala is right near the Danielli. Have you checked out the "rants & raves" section here? The comments on the Flora have not been as good recently.

I love the Flora, last stayed there about 3 years ago. Rooms vary in size; I've been there on my own, but when it comes to doubles, advice has been to spring for a larger room.

We love the Ala. The rooms are large and light and comfortable. The baths are modern. The staff is very helpful and responsive. It is located on a charming square with a church and restaurants about one minutes walk from the Grand Canal and a vaporetto stop. Many rooms look out on a small canal. Very conveniently located and a very good value.
