Venetian Hotel Suggestions
Will be in Venice for three days mid-June and unfortunately, my first choice, the Locanda Orseolo, is booked. Will be traveling with best friend and my Mom and HER best friend, so we want to be in Venice, a nice hotel (3 star), but wallet friendly, as this will be the end of 12 days across Italy. Looking at $200-$250 a room (170-240 Euro). Any suggestions?
Grazie!

Pensione Accademia www.pensioneaccademia.it, is a delightful hotel with a garden and in that price range. It is in the excellent Dosoduro area and about a 10 min. walk from San Marco.

Hi, yes, I just checked on that one (Casa Rezzonico) as well. The courtyard garden is a nice addition. My eyes were glazing over after hours of looking at properties on line ... I like to have a recommendation from folks who've actually stayed at these hotels!

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Ala last October and we were very satisfied. As I recall, the price was within your range, though on the higher side of it. We had a small but fully equipped, well-maintained room overlooking a canal and enjoyed the occasional singing gondolier drifting by (but never late at night). The breakfast was very nice and the location is excellent, one block from the Giglio vaparetto stop and 4-5 minute walk from the Piazza San Marco. The staff wasn't overly friendly but certainly professional and the small common areas were comfortably elegant.

swalter518,
Our dates at the Casa Rezzonico are June 25, 26, and checking out June 27. Actually, we have never watched TV in Italy on previous trips, so it's a non-issue.
My sons and their families will definitely not watch TV with children in tow. It's all about getting up early, hitting the bricks and staying out as late as the kids can take it. We ride 'em hard!
So, we're good to go!

I've stayed at La Calcina twice (on the recommendation of European friends but it is also very popular here on Fodors). Before you get too excited check if there is availability. It's a wonderful place and fills up far in advance. They serve breakfast out on that deck over the canal too.

Suze, happy to reply that I have secured rooms at La Calcina -- I feel lucky to have done so -- I was on a losing streak of all the hotels I wanted being booked already for June!
