Hi I will be going to Venice at the end of October to celebrate my 50th birthday. Right now we have reservations at Laconda Le vele but I am thinking since its my 50th I should splurge a little. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated. Also any restaurant recommendations for a nice restaurant between 200 and 300 euros without alcohol.

I don't know if you require a canal view but we stayed in this very cool hotel in December called Novecento. Extremely tastefully decorated with an Asian/Moroccan feel and an incredible staff. The most wonderful breakfast spread I've experienced as well as custom breakfast requests. Just minutes from the Piazza San Marco.

For me a front corner room at Pensione La Calcina with a view over the Guidecca is celebration worthy. I'm not sure it's quite that expensive though. www.lacalcina.com

We've had several nice stays at the Metropole. A little out of the way but close to Corta Sconta our favorite restaurant.
