Venere not a good choice for booking in Spain?
I've booked two hotels in Spain for our trip this fall through www.venere.com. I've been pleased with their services in the past, love their website, and appreciate the fact I don't have to pay anything until checkout.
However, today I came across an old post in which two Spain gurus, Olga and Maribel, seem to suggest that Venere is not a good choice for booking in spain.

Is this still true? Do I need to confirm my bookings directly with the hotels?

I didn't find venere of any use on my last trip to Spain, but that was because the rates they quoted were not very good. I got better rates elsewhere. I don't remember exactly my opinion about them, I think it was also that they didn't show a very good hotel list. I would never use a web site without comparing rates to the hotel directly and maybe one-two other sites at a minimum. YOu must have been satisfied with the rates you got, so I would just say that you should confirm your reservation with the hotel directly. I would never use a booking site without confirming the reservation with the hotel directly. I've only used one a couple times due to good rates, and always checked with the hotel to see that they had the reservation.

Thanks, Christina, for taking the time to reply. I also check other websites and check the hotel's website as well. However, I've not also independently confirmed the booking with the hotel but am going to do so in the future.

Hi, Mary Fran
I did write that in 2002. The spanish side of Venere.com was just started and it was still a little rough around the edges. After that it got much better and more user friendly for the hotels. I have worked with them for the past 2 years in Las Casas de los Mercaderes hotel in Seville and it works great. For high seasons it usually still has only rack rates -published, official rates-, but often carries good last minute offers or low season specials.
But I do recomend double checking with hotels directly, for instance by e-mail, also letting them know any details or preferences that online booking forms aren't too useful for.

Confirming directly with a hotel often brings peace of mind. You might also consider using www.hotelsearch.com in the future (if you ever go back) since it features only hotels in Spain.
