Vegetarian Options in Paris?
Anyone have any good restaurants to go to in Paris for vegetarian fare? It doesn't have to be totally vegetarian -- one or two entrees will do. I do eat dairy and eggs. Have never been to Paris, but based on French restaurants in the states, I don't want to be faced with a menu full of pork cheeks and beef knuckles! THANKS!!!

There was Gordon Ramsay's experiment - but it went belly-up due lack of interest (by the management).

I think you could not call traditional French food vegetarian because it wasn't. So while there are certainly dishes you can order that are vegetarian now (and always could), entrees at dinner are not usually one of them. For example, you could always get some kind of omelet which would be vegetarian or some side dish. For example, Cafe Deux Magots sort of has a specialty that is a leek tart, and it is good, but that wouldn't be what most people would consider a main course for dinner.
There are websites with lists like these for vegetarians, maybe you should check them out. There are a couple full vegetarian restaurants in Paris, so they would know them. Acquarius is one of the main ones I remember, in the Marais, and the Grenier de Notre Dame in the 5th arr.

I have never had any problem. I just go wherever my husband wants to go and he is a meat eater. If I don't see anything, I just ask if they have anything vegetarian. Sometimes they even make special dishes for me. I have much more trouble at home in the states.
I have to admit the first time I went to Paris I was weary and stuck to crepes, etc. But let me tell you, if you just ask, you will be amazed. There is so much available, and everything is so fresh.
We both really enjoyed Ze Kitchen. You might want to give it a try.

The Time Out eating and drinking guide for Paris recommends several vegetarian restaurants in Paris. I can't vouch for any of these, but we have found the Time Out ratings to be pretty reliable:
La Victoire Suprême du Coeur, 41 rue des Bourdonnais in the 1st, 01 40 41 93 95
Le Potage du Marais 22 rue Rambateau in the 3rd, 01 42 74 24 66
Les 5 Saveurs d'Anada, 72 rue de Cardinal-Lemoine in the 5th, 01 43 29 58 54
Le Grenier de Notre-Dame, 18 rue de la Bûcherie in the 5th, 01 43 29 98 29
La Petite Légume, 36 rues des Boulangers in the 5th, 01 40 46 06 85
Guenmaï, 6 rue Cardinal in the 6th, 01 43 26 03 24
Aquarius, 40 rue de Gergovie in the 14th, 01 45 41 36 88
They particularly recommend Le Potager du Marais and Aquarius.

I've been eating regularly, for over 20 years, at Guenmai restaurant in the 6th...and no I have no part in the restaurant. I've had this nickname for decades back when I went macrobiotic in the 80s.
Anyhow, if you walk out rue Buci...from Blvd. St.Germain end...when you get to the first street...turn left...the only way you can turn...and the restaurant will be right in front of you about a short block up the street. It's a green and white building. You can get there on either Metro Line 4 and get off at St. Germain or Line 10 and get off at Mabillon.
Sophie, the owner, and her family live upstairs and her now grown kids and husband help run the place. It's a real family affair. I've known the kids since they were toddlers.
She has the best seitan brochette that I've ever had. I think it's served on either Tuesday or Wednesday and you can get it on the plat de jour. There's usually left over brochettes the next day. I eat in and take out food. She's only open for lunch. She also has delicious sugar-free fruit tarts. I eat there almost every day for lunch when I'm in Paris which has been almost annually for around 7-8 days each trip. I've tried a lot of other vegetarian restaurants throughout the decades, but always end up at Guenmai. Bon Appetit. Happy Travels!

FLUNCH cafeterias are all over Paris and you can eat unlimited helpings of veggies - for times when you do not want to spend a fortune at a proper restaurant and want to down-home French veggies at a great great price (and no service charge!)
