VAT refund process at Frankfurt Airport

Hello, we will be staying near the Frankfurt airport Friday night, and taking a flight directly to the US on SAT.

We purchased some jewelery in Austria, got the merchant to fill out the VAT form. Have not done this before, so am wondering the procedure and locations at the Frankfurt airport to get the paperwork stamped or get a refund on the spot. The item is a ring, and we will not be checking luggage but have carry ons.

Thanks for your help !

Anyone have any info? I'm not sure and certainly no expert but don't you have to do the VAT tax in the country where you purchased the item(s)? I'm sure someone else will have exact info for you. Good Luck.

Have your paperwork completed before you arrive. I can't tell you how many times I've had to wait in line behind people who were trying to fill it in at the window. You'll get it stamped at whatever point you are leaving the EU. I can't remember specific directions on finding the office an Frankfort,(your original question) but there should be signs or an official who can direct you.

All the best to you!

You can claim VAT refund from the country where you bought the item, PROVIDED you can show the boarding pass to the US. Otherwise, you claim the refund at the LAST EU country before you go back to the US.
Agree you'll need plenty of time--as there always seems to be only one person at the desk regardless of where you claim VAT refund.

This poster seems to know about Frankfurt Airport:

The advice about taking the train from the Airport is dead on, so I'll presume the advice about VAT refund is similiarly good.
