Vandalized Memorial along the Danube in Budapest

It was brought to my attention today that, the memorial in memory of the innocent men, women, & children who were bound, shot, & thrown into the Danube by the Iron Cross in 1944,was recently vandalized. In October,my husband & I visited the row of iron cast pairs of shoes lined up along the bank of the Danube close to Budapest's Parliament buildings. May the perpetrators of this act suffer a similar fate.

A few years ago I saw this horrifying memorial to 'man's inhumanity to man.' Unfortunately, the venom against Jews has recurred with a ferocity which will, in time, spread and cause many of all religions to avoid certain areas.

Wonder if anyone has visited this Memorial since last year's reported vandalism?
Would be interested to know if it has been appropriately repaired. Thanks very much---

Just to update, we visited this memorial in October and were stunned by its power. There was damage to it, but perhaps that made it even more poignant.
It is close to Parliament, but we found it best to approach by walking straight north from Charles Bridge, as there is a busy highway between the river and Parliament, with few pedestrian crossings.

I was there a year ago June (2006) and saw no damage to it although I had read some prior newspaper reports of previous attacks.

I also noticed there is no sign or inscription (I didn't see one).

You had to know what you were seeing or had no idea.

I have a photo of it on my web site at:
www.travelwalks.com

select the Prague, Budapest, etc trip of 2006 on the bottom right side of the page.

Unforutnately, you'll have to go thru a lot of photos to get to it. But it's there.
