Valencia, questions

After many visits to other places in Spain, we are finally planning a week or so in Valencia.
Would the end of Oct. Be a good time ( prefer cooler weather).?
Any day trips by public transit? car necessary for side trips?
Suggestions for interesting spots( other than usual attractions).?
LOVE Calatrava!
We'll be staying in an apt very close the hotel Las Arenas.

any input would be appreciated

Danon: We were in Valencia in 2011 and really enjoyed the city.If you like Calatrava, you will have plenty of places to visit(Puente de la Peineta and Ciudad de las Artes).
Don't miss churches(Cathedral; Santos Juanes,Iglesia del Patriarca, a real gem with an alligator; really!!), Museo de la Cerámica, Plaza de la Reina,Torres de Serrano and many more.Ciudad de las Artes y las Letras is really a world class atraction. You can access my report by clicking on my name or at:

No doubts you will enjoy the city!

Danon I'm happy for you. Valencia truly is a beautiful city in many ways. I wish I had more information for you, but for the moment, here is my report from last year, with lots of information about food:

danon.. I hope you have time for a quick coffee!! If I can help in any way, let me know!

As far as weather goes, we never know! You'll just have to watch internet a few days ahead of time.

My family says it is still hot in Cincinnati. So who knows. It is still warm here but has cooled off at night a bit. In another month we may have some heavy , much needed rain.. who knows.

it's nice you have such a long time here! I'm back from the States a few days before you get here.

You'll want to get to know the bus as the tram is very very slow and doesn´t really take you quickly anywhere.

The metro does go from the airport to the area you have your flat, but remember at the end of the line there is still another short tram ride to get closer to the hotel right there from the last stop of the station.

Best to buy a 10 ride bono bus/metro ZONA A for your time in town, and share it, except for the airport ride which is a different zone/fare.

Bus map:
