US Airways August airfares

US Airways has some good August airfares to Shannon & Dublin: $598 R/T Philadelphia-Shannon (or $648 to Dublin). One doesn't usually find deals like that in mid-summer.

I'm sure advance purchase and midweek travel are required; but those are still pretty good fares.

Those are even good if you use Dublin as your Gateway to Europe: AerLingus has some excellent fares to European destinations. I guess they're going 'head to head' against RyanAir.

I've been checking this too and have found good fares for Sept. on USAirways --BUT does anyone know how they're doing about staying in business? is there a risk that these flights just won't happen?

US Air announced merger with America West today - nice dowry being supplied by Airbus. We're happy because this means our flight back home in July should be okay [US Air was scheduled to run out of its loan guarantee on June 30]

I am doing a raindance that USAIR is still intact...

It is our MAJOR carrier here in VA and I was ready to flip if they went under..and then if I had to lose all those valuable ff miles that I hoard for Europe travel!!

Yep- they just announced the merger with Air West on our local news!

But the deal doesn't allow you to arrive/leave from different airports in Ireland, correct?

oh this is good news, especially since I have a huge stash of America West FF miles that I never thought I'd be able to use for a European trip...
but ErinJ what do you mean about not arriving/leaving from different airports in Ireland?

I just mean that with the USAir deal, you can't, say, arrive in Dublin and leave out of Shannon.

I just booked a September flight on US Airways arriving Shannon departing Dublin -- for just under $550. from BWI through Philadelphia. The multi-city option turned out not to be a problem after all.
