Urgent--Seeing Michelangelo's David

I have been planning a trip to Italy for me and my 15 year old son, and after tons of planning I am getting down to buying museum tickets. The site for the Accademia in Florence says the first floor will re-open after renovation on April 3 (which is of course the day after we depart). Can this possibly mean that the David statue cannot be viewed until April 3rd? It is one of the main highlights planned for the trip. Can anybody help!!

Thanks

The first floor in Italian is the floor above the ground floor. David is on the ground floor.

Even better, you can see an exact replica right outside for free.

The "exact replica" outside (actually there are several all over Florence, while free, is nothing like seeing the real thing at the Accademia. Do whatever it takes to see it - it is breathtaking.

Agree wholeheartedly with mamcalice. There is nothing to compare with the "real" David in the Accademia. He took my breath away and I literally did not move for several hours.

It will be one of the great highlights of your trip. I still remember how breathtaking it was when I first saw him 50 years ago!
