Urgent: Dining in Honfleur and rest of Normandy
We have rented a gite for a week in Honfleur--leaving Monday, March 15--and want to know about your favorite restaurants, foods, and various taste treats. We are casual people, older, and on a tight budget, so the perfect restaurant for us is inexpensive and focuses on regional foods.
And since we have the gite, we'll be packing lunches and doing some cooking for outselves.
Any thoughts? Advice? Fantastic culinary memories?
Thanks to all. Ellen

The restaurant la Grenouille (I believe that it is its name) on the waterfront but not facing the old harbor, was quite good and reasonable. Or you can splurge there and for 80 or 90 euros get their seafood platter for two that includes lobster.

clocher means church tower, not clock.
I liked Le Chat qui Peche which is right in the main area near the harbor, also. It is cosy and does have local, regional cuisine. Not super cheap, but not at all super expensive (entrees about 10-15 euro). I was there for lunch and it was not formal. A friend of mine who was raised in that area and goes back to visit a lot took me, so I guess it is okay with locals. They even have a web site, much to my surprise:

In Pennedepie, a few miles from the town of Honfleur, in the direction of Trouville and Deauville, there is a lovely hotel with wonderful food and not expensive. The view of the restaurant to the Seine river and the city of Le Havre is great.
The name of the hotel La Romantica.
We stayed there. It is a Logis de France. The hotel has two pools .
Enjoy

Lovely suggestions all! I love the fact that you can ask a question like this on this website and get an abundance of responses.
This will be our first gite experience and we are VERY excited. It seems a good omen that our hosts have asked us to pick up our key at a wine store!!!
Thanks to all. E.

You betcha, Michael! Our vision is evenings spent, after a long day of touring, chez nous with a glass of calvados, a piece of camembert and a little Charles Trenet or Edith Piaf on the CD-player our hosts provide!!! E.
