My husband and I are booked on the River Royale-Burgundy and Provence cruise this September. My husband though has a problem walking any distance. I know he'll be fine on the ship. However, how long are the walking tours? Are there any wheel chair rentals available? Are taxis available? Are you rushed on these tours? As you can probably tell, this is our first cruise. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Janet,
I suggest you go to the rivercruise threads on www.cruisecritic.com for answers to your questions.
We cruised from Budapest to Amsterdam on Avalon in 2007 and it was a fantastic vacation. We are looking forward to doing it again next year.On Avalon the walking tours were in the morning and always over by time to go back to the ship for lunch. Dh and I usually started out with the included tours but often went off on our own to wander. We liked to skip the lunch on the ship and eat in the town at local places. In the afternoon you could enjoy the city you were in or sign up for one of the optional excursions. You are under no pressure to do anything you do not want to do. I did not see any wheelchairs for rent but I probably would not have noticed anyway. Our cruise director often arranged for special transportation for those who had mobility problems. There are definitely taxis available but you probably will not need one as the cruise director will make arrangements for you if needed.
You will have a wonderful time. It is the most relaxing way to travel that there is. Just enjoy!!
